Leaf & Butterfly Crown

I was trying to decide what hat to wear for The West 18th Street Fashion Show, and decided to make a flower crown! I was inspired by Refinery29’s post about the flower crowns for weddings and such and loved the idea. Below is Refinery29’s final product.

I made mine with leaves from plants in my garden, and some butterflies that I previously had to pin in my hair. Here are the steps to make your own!

Materials:
– Leaves (or flowers)
– Pipe Cleaners
– Scissors
– Butterflies (optional)

Step 1: Take two-four pipe cleaners and twist them together. This will be the base of the crown.

Step 2: Measure the length of the piping on your head to how high you want the crown to sit on your head.

Step 3: Cut pieces of piping about 2 inches long. (about 10-15 pieces)

Step 4: When cutting the flowers/leaves, make sure you leave about 3 inches of stem to secure the flower to the pipe cleaner.

Step 5: To secure the leaves, take one of the cut pieces of pipe cleaner and twist it around the stem and the crown piping tightly. You can continue this however you like until the crown is completely full, or the way you please.

Step 6: Add any other embellishments. I added the butterflies. The butterflies came with wire inside them to wrap around the base.

Step 7: Ta da! You can wear this as a headband/crown or you can wear it over a hat! Love how this turned out, and I can’t wait to wear it to the show!
