Fall Clothing Trends 2012

Happy October! I am falling for these Fall trends. My fashion heart is turning oxblood while my hair is changing colors faster than the leaves. I have put together my Fall 2012 Trend Wish List that carries pieces of some major trends including: oxblood, animalistic sweaters, printed pants, leather, peplum, quilted fabrics, metallics, ranch and Native American inspired prints and colors in outerwear, and crosses between elegant equestrian and militaristic outerwear. To break it down: The colors you will be seeing are rich wines, Native American prints, metallics, and warm fall-traditional colors. While the fabrics you will be seeing are leather, quilted fabrics (for late fall and early winter), and cozy sweaters. Lastly, the shapes you will be seeing are peplum, equestrian trousers, pants, and jackets, and military-inspired coats/outerwear. You can click on these links for info. on fall make-up trends or fall shoe trends.

The best way to dress for fall is by layering. This year, when deciding on your fall jacket, go for a structured and cropped jacket instead of your typical long, cardigan. Then you can wear it over a heavier sweater or structured peplum top. I would definitely style this look with a slimming trouser. Another great way to still be cozy but not too casual is to wear dark-wash jeggings instead of leggings. My favorite jeggings that I wear on a regular basis are from American Eagle.

Jackets: Black Motorcycle Jacket in PU Leather ($63), Caramel Leather Look Biker Jacket ($79), Acne Mape cropped lizard-embossed leather jacket ($1200)

Peplum Tops: OASIS Faux Leather Peplum Top ($68), Bardot Leatherette Peplum Top ($94), AX Paris Studded Peplum Top ($32)

Animalistic Sweaters: MUVEIL Sequined Puppy Sweater ($585), Aubin & Willis Portland fox intarsia merino wool sweater ($215), Knitted Horses Jumper ($49)

Trousers: PROENZA SCHOULER Highwaist Jean Dark Indigo ($355), J Brand Leather Legging ($895), Givenchy Lambskin Trouser ($865)

A few more items to add to my fall wish list are: printed pants, metallics, quilted fabrics, and Western Ranch meets Native American inspired prints and colors in outerwear.

These printed pants are Chinoiserie Jacquard Cigarette Trousers ($90). I would wear these with a blazer and ankle boots or loafers. Don’t forget: Metallics in moderation!!  This Tory Burch Metallic-trimmed crepe dress($255) is great for a cold day with tights and heels, and can easily go from work to a night out by changing the accessories. I also think that these 7 For All Mankind Khaki Metallic The Skinny Jeans ($302) are a really great way to achieve the metallic trend because you can style them so many different ways. For the quilted pieces, you definitely want a quilted structured piece, like this MANGO Quilted Leather Jacket ($250) or these Thakoon Addition Quilted Leather Shorts ($490). These shorts would be amazing to wear with tights, ankle boots, and a military inspired parka jacket. I am obsessed with Aztec-inspired prints so I am super excited to see more of them this fall! I love this Waterfall Aztec Cardigan ($15) to wear with something like the metallic khakis and a blouse or with jeggings and a denim button-up. I would love to wear this oversized Phoenix Jumper ($68) with army green skinny jeans and a statement collar! I am actually dying for this sweater right now. I am so excited to bundle up this fall – stay tuned for Winter 2012 trends!
