“I didn’t always know what I wanted to do, but I knew the kind of woman I wanted to be.” – Diane von Furstenburg
I find DVF to be the epitome of what I believe in: inspiration for women to be confident, beautiful, and sophisticated. Diane is the most influential woman in fashion, and her snippets of wisdom inspire me daily.
Sunday night on E! the new reality show House of DVF started. The show follows 8 young women and their successes/challenges as they go through a program with Diane herself, to be the global DVF ambassador. I thought about what a huge opportunity this was, when at the end of it someone could potentially be as influential as Poppy Delveigne or Alexa Chung, while embodying the DVF woman. Quite a life-altering position for the taking. Some of the candidates in their intros said: “…I’ve already had 3 internships and I currently go to FIT. I know I am young but I have accomplished a lot when most people my age haven’t…” or “…I’m a fashion blogger…” etc. Sound familiar? Yikes. Watching this show made me analyze my own attitude if I were to have an experience like this, and even during interviews and internships how my actions are perceived. I thought these women were coming off as entitled for this position, but mostly I just saw their passion. I am eager to watch the show continue and maybe in the future have a similar opportunity.
